Spinecare Introduction
Evaluating Your Doctor

9.    Will you review reasonable therapeutic options with me?
It is important to get a perspective on how much time a physician is willing spend on reviewing surgical and/or non-surgical therapeutic options.  This is a particularly important question when seeing a surgeon because they may be very abrupt and short in their response.  This will give you an indication as to whether you may need to go elsewhere for additional options.  Some surgeons may take the approach that you simply are not surgical at this time, review the signs and symptoms to watch rather than spend time reviewing non-surgical options.

You can ask for this information prior to seeing the doctor.  Time is better spent reviewing the physician’s background information than reading general magazines in the writing room.  When asking questions about your physician, always be reasonable.  Do not expect your physician to answer each and every question in great detail.  The physician’s staff may be able to answer some of the questions.  If you obtain the doctor’s resume or curriculum vitae, it will likely answer most of the questions you wish to ask.
